E-Portfolios Using Weebly
Purpose/Rationale
Many aspects of these new "Career-Education" courses in the new curriculum place a focus on networking, maintaining a "positive digital footprint," and looking at ways to use media tools like Weebly to do just that. As this was a platform I was familiar with, and I knew that this would be an easy tool for my students to use.
I designed this assignment as a keystone project for my Career-Education 10/11 class to touch upon many of these concepts as well as others that are outlined in the curriculum, including examining who they are are people, workers, and learners, and research possible career and educational paths that they would be interested in pursuing when they finish high school.

Process
I designed my own sample portfolio for students to refer to as they designed theirs. I would teach a lesson to the students introducing them to the concept/material that they were to research and incorporate into their portfolio, and then I would have them apply this skill under my supervision. If they were stuck, then there would be sample pages on my portfolio that they could use as a reference.
The student portfolios needed to include the following elements:
Homepage
On their Homepage, students needed to include brief descriptions of each page on their site as well as hyperlinks to those pages.
Profile
On their Profile Pages, they needed to introduce themselves and provide three hyperlinks to things they were interested in (hobbies, favourite video games, favourite food, etc.). I also had them all take "Multiple Intelligences Quizzes" to help them identify which area of intelligence they were the strongest and possible career paths that would suit them related to those intelligences.
Career/Post-Secondary Goals
On this page, students needed to post information about three career paths they researched and two post-secondary institutions that provided education/training in fields related to at least two of the careers they researched.
Resume
On this page, students posted "redacted" versions of their resumes. I cautioned them against publishing personal information like their addresses and phone numbers (although all these sites were password protected), but I did ask them to post their educational and work experience.
Words of Wisdom
On this page, I asked students to post the results of an interview that they undertook with an adult they trusted and who knew them well. They were to ask their interviewee questions about what they felt their strengths and weaknesses were and words of wisdom/advice that they would share with the student on how they might be successful.

Reflection
This project took a lot of time to complete (about an entire term). These were not new concepts for them (as I had many students for Career-Education 8/9 the year before, and we explored a number of these concepts in previous Career Education classes), but this was a new platform for many of them.
The students took to the technology easily, and I was pleased that I was able to introduce this tool to them. I believe that tools like Weebly (and similar platforms, such as Wix and WordPress) are useful for my students to know how to use, as in many fields of study and career pathways, student might need to have a portfolio of work and accomplishments to add to their resumes and share with prospective employers.
